Places to Visit
Plymouth is central to many places of interest both Historical and Entertaining such as :-
- The Mayflower Steps , Where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America, tread in their footsteps.
- Plymouth Hoe, gives a magnificent view overlooking Plymouth Sound which is our natural harbour, this is also where Sir Francis Drake played bowls before defeating the Spanish Armada.
- The Eden Project, stunning biospheres containing flora from worldwide.
- The National Marine Aquarium, housing Europe's Largest Deepwater tank, "As close as you can get without getting wet! "
- The Scylla: HMS Scylla was a British Navy Frigate, after she had come to the end of her naval career she has been sunk just off the coast as a new reef and scuba divers are welcome.
- Lands End: as the name implies this is the extreme end of mainland Britain.
- Shark Fishing in the nearby port of Looe.
- Dartmoor National Park, including the famous (or infamous) Dartmoor Prison; this is an active part of our Penal system and you can visit the museum.
- Plymouth Pavilions: live entertainment including Music, Comedy, Dance, Basketball, Fun Pool and Ice rink.
- Plymouth Gin Distillery: visit England's oldest working Gin Distillery.
- The Monkey Sanctuary, home for the last forty years to a large troop of Amazon Woolly Monkeys.
- Days out by Train in the beautiful Tamar Valley, trains run seven days a week.
- South West Coast Trail Walks: walk the edge between land and sea, quite breathtaking!
- Boat cruises up the river Tamar, you choose either a four and a half hour trip up the Tamar Valley, or a one and a half hour trip up to the Naval base and Warships; both cruises have running tour commentary and boats are fully fitted with toilets and snack bar.
- Freedom Fields: visit the site of the English Civil War battle won by the Roundheads against the Royalists.
